This is the second part of the three hour discussion that we started off last episode with and it's pretty much all comics and comic related stuff in this one. We talk about path of superhero movies as they relate to the source material, why Wonder Woman might be a leading weapon when it comes to equality in film, why people should stop holding comic adaptations to their own imaginary standards, and why DC and Marvel can't stop with the crises.
Admittedly, there's a lot we mentioned but didn't get through, like the way women are being treated in the industry, the fact that not all comic books are superhero books, and adaptations of comic books outside of just film and television. Fortunately, It looks like we're gonna be here for a long time, so we'll have time to tackle some of that other stuff.
Keep in mind that all of what's been said here is our interpretation as industry outsiders. For example, we can't say for certain that Marvel actively took steps to ensure Captain America and Iron Man's popularities because they knew they wouldn't be able to use their previous major players (Spider-Man, Wolverine, and the X-Men) in the movies, but it sure seems that way.
Not much for Liner Links this week. Let us know if you're confused about any specific reference we made, as their were a lot of in-jokes this episode--if we gave you a link for each of them, we'd be here all day. But I will leave you with this: Without Spider-Man, we wouldn't have the Power Rangers. Like, at all. If you need any character specifics, each company has their own database, or just go to Wikipedia, which is way cleaner.
Longboxes are what all real fans keep their books in!
Later.
P.S: We chose the song because it's in the film and inspired the main character's name in the Scott Pilgrim series. It's by a band called Plumtree, from their album, Predicts the Future. It's a pretty good album. Also, the lyrics kind of describe the way we feel about these movies and books. We've liked them for a thousand years. And we can't wait 'til we see them. Also, we spent a ton of time talking about superheroes and that series isn't exactly about them, so ... balance?
